MICHEL DELAERE

Delaere is a self-taught sculptor. He was apprenticed at the age of 14 to a carpenter, consequently worked in a wood shop, and then opened his own business. However, he always wanted to create and sculpt, which he has done exclusively since starting to exhibit in 1979.

He lives and works in the Belgian countryside where his father had a farm.  He works with cedar, mdf, lacquer, metal, other woods, and also paper. According to Stephan Rey's article in a Brussels newspaper "Echo de la Bourse" of October 1996, Delaere combines the fine arts of painting, sculpting and surgery in his work. Delaere magically transforms his basic materials into a sensation that is difficult to describe. He follows the detours, the meandering, and the tactile sensations of the wood to expose the poetry and beauty within. He constantly reinvents seduction, as you are again and again attracted to the sculpture. He is a wonderful master of his art, inimitable, and whose work never ceases to amaze, captivate and grow in popularity.
