GIULIANO GHELLI

Giuliano Ghelli was born in 1944 in Florence.

He begins his career in 1963, as a very young artist, in collective exhibitions at the "Numero" gallery in Milan. Later on, the Florentine artist exposes and travels through Italy and foreign countries. In 1973 he wins a scholarship granted to him by the Communal administration of Florence; in 1974 he publishes "The landscape holder", a book of drawings with essays written by Lara Vinca Masini; in 1975 and1980 he is "Segnalato Bolaffi" by Tommaso Paloscia, he is chosen as one of the best 50 Italian artists.

In Italy he has held personal exhibitions in public and private galleries in Florence, Milan, Rome, Turin, Palermo,Aquila, Siena, Ferrara, Venice, Comacchio, Sanremo, Bari, Alassio, Genua, Brescia, Courmayeur, Forte dei Marmi and so on.

Abroad, after a first personal exhibition in 1974 at the University of Paris, he has exposed his work in New York, Los Angeles, Dortmund, Frankfurt, Bremen, Munster, Worpswede, Luxembourg, Brussels, Seville, Barcelona, Stockholm, Manhole, Melle, and Salonika.

In 1990, after a meeting with Carlo Pedretti, director of the Harmand Hammer Institute for Leonardo da Vinci Studies at Los Angeles, Ghelli started a new pictorial production cycle inspired by Leonardo da Vinci. In 1992 the Communal Administration of Milan organized his personal exhibition in the Treasury Room of the Sforza Castle. On this occasion was published the book "Travelling with Leonardo", with essays written by Carlo PEDRETTI, edited by The Armand Hammer Center For Leonardo Studies of U.C.L.A..In 1995 he realized, on order by Mercedes-Benz Italy, a cycle of twenty paintings of big size for its new central headquarters in Rome.

In September 2000 he had a personal show in "Soho"gallery in Sydney, on the occasion of the Olympic Games. In the same year he was a winner of the competition organized by "The Foundation Collodi", for the creation of a large mural about Pinocchio.

In March 2001 he held a very successful personal exhibition at the "Pecci Museum" in Prato, entitled "The colored word". This  show went then to "The Communal Modern Art Gallery" in Arezzo.

He created the emblem and the poster for "The National festival of freedom", organized by the Region of Tuscany and had  a one man show  in the elegant Panciatichi Palace in Florence.

In March 2001 the National Chamber of the Style and the Commune of Milan selected and ordered one of his painted mannequins, as an award given to the first prize of "The Milan prize for  fashion 2002". The winner , Suzy Menkez, is a journalist for the Herald Tribune.

In the last years he has realized several commissioned works whose content was focused on communications and public image for well-known public organizations such as,: the Commune of Florence (Football World Match9) The national Railways (Cover of 1998 official time table), the Media-Archives of the Region Tuscany (Fiesole- Award for the Masters of Cinema, conferred to Robert ALTMAN in 1995), to Mario MONICELLI with Alberto SORDI in 1996; Commune of Bremen (Strassenbahn AG, Germany) and  forbig Corporations such as Fiat,Mercedes, RAI TV, Astrea, Wabco-Westinghouse, Asea Brown Boveri, Samuel Parker- Slamp, Bank of Tuscany, Manusardi bank, Club Tenco in Sanremo and Chrysler.
